Bucharest International Model United Nation started yesterday, at the Palace of Parliament, with new participants, fresh hopes and ambitious dreams. One of the biggest and most important MUNs in Europe is now ready to bring new ideas and solutions to actual problems.
The Opening Ceremony was an opportunity to see how the people already involved in politics believe in the youth and in our power of change and of influence. As President of the UN Youth Association of Romania, Vahe Hovakimyan outlined that this conference is a chance to make the voice of the youth heard, but also to create a social network for future development.
Among the speakers who took the floor at the Opening Ceremony, there were Cristian Dumitrescu, Vice-president of the Romanian Senate, Bogdan Aurescu, President of Scientific Council of the UN Youth Association of Romania, His Excellency, Mr. Oleg-Sergheevici Malginov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Romania, Mark Schlink, Vice-Consul at the Embassy of the United States of America in Romania and Manolis Batistakis, Secretary General of the BISMUN 2013 Conference.
The Ceremony started with the message of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, who emphasized the role of these MUN simulations in solving real-life problems, by challenging the negotiation skills and diplomatic abilities of teenagers in a world which passes from crisis to crisis.
The speakers advised the participants to act, to learn by doing and to do by learning, to get involved, but also to have fun and take advantage of every moment of this Conference – even the Coffee Breaks, where all the greatest decisions are discussed.
Having reached the 5th edition of BISMUN, it is an important moment for us to think twice about our future and to see how diplomacy is working in real life, because, as Bogdan Aurescu stated, a MUN is a core element of our exercises.
As His Excellence, Mr. Oleg Malginov underlined, the future is in our hands, it needs us to take rapid and correct decisions!
