The pens are raised now here in the NATO committee! The delegates voted on the topic that they will discuss, choosing topic A which referred to NATO-EU relations. The goal of the topic is the establishment of points in which they can cooperate on ensuring a good security. The agenda was set with 19 votes for and Luxemburg being the only country that was against.
The delegation of France was the only country that militated for collective action and crisis management in the development of the common security and defense policies, its argument being that it is “a great way to respond to future problems that may arouse”.
Regarding the cooperation between the delegates, no conflicts of statements broke out. The participants were calm and very cooperative. As a response to this, the Greek chair, Nikolaos Tsikolitis stated that “it is the friendliest NATO committee that I have ever seen”. Nikolaos expected that the delegates would be more aggressive concerning the committee and the topic that they are debating.
What will happen in the next days and what other decisions will the delegates make will remain a surprise for all of us. Still more to come so stay tuned!
