The Russian Federation has finally convinced someone to be its ally: the representative of Kazakhstan has spoken in favor of the Russian Ambassador. The speech was met with an intense round of applause from Russia. What’s more, the two Delegates have created an actual communication line via handwritten messages passed on with the help of the friendliest Committee Assistant ever, Louana Popovici. Also, the Delegation of the Russian Federation can be seen smiling with absolute satisfaction. Is there an alliance treaty being formed, Ambassadors? Or…do Russia + Kazakhstan equal Love?
The Committee Session is progressing quite well and at a fast pace, with friendly amendments proposed by Switzerland, China and the USA, who had teamed up. Proposals such as the improvement of the infrastructure of the IAWN website (insertion requested by the Delegation of Brazil) or the invitation of “countries to join IAWN for a better working future in the planetary defense field” are being made. Unfortunately, France feels that Brazil’s motion is unfriendly and is debating against it. In addition, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Turkey, China, India, South Arabia and many more support Brazil, while only France and Japan vote against it, with Argentina abstaining.
However, the real question here is why nobody speaks their mind loud and clear? Why does every Delegate choose to send messages on pieces of paper? COPUOS is in great need of transparency!
As the time passes, the Russian Federation is smiling wider and wider for it is slowly building a strong alliance, adding the US and Switzerland to it. Ukraine steps up and sends messages to Argentina and China. Smart geostrategic move, Delegate! Interesting enough, South Korea makes a move and communicates with Canada.
All in all, the diplomats have passed at least a hundred messages between each other, transforming the COPUOUS Committee into an outdated form of group chat. Stay tuned to find out what other crazy alliances have been formed and how Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation’s relationship is progressing!
