The 8th edition of Bucharest International Model United Nation started yesterday at the Palace of Parliament with old friends but also with new participants, fresh hopes and ambitious dreams! One of the biggest and most important MUNs in Europe is now ready to bring new ideas and solutions to problems that are striking in the present.
Under the general theme United against Terrorism. Reaching Global Consensus, more than 200 students from 16 university centers will be discussing for the next five days about terrorism and how to stand united in order to reach a global consensus!
Among the speakers who took the floor at the Opening Ceremony, there were Mr. Sebastian Huluban, Presidential Advisor on Security Issues, Mr. Bogdan Aurescu, President of Scientific Council of the UN Youth Association of Romania, Mrs. Daniela Grigore Gîtman, State Secretary for Global Affairs, Mr. Vahe Hovakimyan, Founding President of UN Youth Association of Romania, Mr.Valentin Florea, President of UN Youth Association of Romania and Conference Manager of 2016’s edition of BISMUN and Mr.Nikolaos Tsikolitis, Secretary General of the BISMUN 2016 Conference.
The general theme of the conference emphasizes the need to take action on such a sensitive matter as terrorism is nowadays. Mrs. Daniela Grigore Gîtman, State Secretary for Global Affairs stated that:
“The United Nations represents a global area in which the representatives of the countries meet and propose solutions to the existing problems. Romania’s involvement in the UN is an ongoing priority of our foreign policy agenda as starting with 2018, Romania will have a new mandate in the ECOSOC Committee of the UN. Also we seek to obtain the status of a permanent member in the Security Council (the 2020-2021 mandate).
At the end of the Opening Ceremony that took place at the Palace of Parliament there was signed a Protocol on cooperation between the Foreign Ministry and the UN Youth Association of Romania. The protocol aims to promote the UN values among the youth, with a particular emphasis on supporting education. The paper also constitutes an instrument through which the development of the joint activities between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UN Youth Association of Romania is tracked.
