Good morning world! Good morning BISMUN! After three fructuous days in the Security Council, we would like to inform you that the situation is on the right path and that is self-prophetic included in our conference’s name REACHING CONSENSUS! Of course, the interests prevail but, after straining, arguing and disagreeing due to perspective dissonance. This committee agreed to focuse on writing and implementing measures in order to fight for achieving their main objectives: eradicating the plague called terrorism.
The working paper, merging two other papers, was submitted yesterday and integrated at both western and eastern perspectives, proving that fighting against terrorism transcends ideology, politics and policies. When a common enemy appears, humankind can stand united. The Security Council lived up to the expectations!
The thesis underpinnings do respect the ownership principle in implementing international development aid by stating that the Syrian people will decide the future of Syria. Also the cessation of hostilities in the Syrian region by respecting the Terms of the Cessation of Hostilities adopted by the United States and Russia, as co-chairs of the International Syria Support Group. Condemning all the terrorist organizations and the usage of chemical weapons the working paper is still confusing up to a point, when it comes to the “DZ/ DMZ” also circulated as “buffer zone”.
All our esteemed Excellences proceeded into the discussion without defining a certain common ground of this concept. This might cause weak points to the working paper because you cannot have a “buffer zone” without the full consensus. Implicitly we will have two situations in which there can lead to just a futile action:
The case of creating a buffer zone in Syrian government controlled areas
Considering the actual regime in Syria’s approach, this hypothesis can be considered a threat to Syrian integrity and also illegitimate according to Syrian population majority.
The case of including Daesh in discussing for creating a buffer zone
The definition of terrorism includes two important dimensions. Terror as instruments or means and the political ideology as purpose, mainly contravenes with diplomacy or democratic views so such a proposal it is out of discussion.
Anyhow, we cannot wait for the draft resolution to be approved.
