After a long and difficult debate the delegates of DISEC haven’t reached an agreement regarding the first topic of illicit arms trade and the draft resolution has been rejected. Although amendments were made, it was quite hard for the delegates to find consensus regarding this topic due to the many diverse positions of member states.
Currently delegates are debating the second topic, namely illicit drugs and the terrorist threat, the linkage between Drug Trafficking and Terrorist Groups. Drug trafficking is a global illicit trade involving the cultivation, manufacture, distribution and sale of substances which are subject to drug prohibition laws.
This is a current international issue of great importance that must be dealt with by member states. In this perspective they seem to find common ground regarding this topic, but in the same time it is quite a difficult one. Will they manage to find solutions this time, or will this draft resolution have the fate of the previous one?
