During these days of debates the participants ambassadors have searched for solutions, expressed their points of view, they contradicted themselves, helped each other but all tried to solve Syria’s problems and finding a solve for terrorist attacks. Now at the end, they have reached a consensus, their ideas materialized in a strong plan, thought carefully which they hope that will could chance something and could solve the problems and they are waiting to their plan to be accepted.
The last day was a little bit difficult, full of tension, probably because the last night wine at the “Romanian night”. Ambassadors were shown to be very professional and prepare, they worked in team and the resolution were done in the end of the day.
From 15 different people, it wasn’t easy, but they made alliances, some even unexpected, and they succeeded. Some of them stood out by intelligence, courage, intuition and they won quickly trust of others but I think that all had something to learn from BISMUN and have improved their own knowledge and they will come back next year.
First of their ideas is to tighten the border between Iraq and Syria with troops provided by UN Member States willing to undertake such operation. They will train and financing soldiers and troops will be under the supervision of Iraq, respecting their sovereignty.Second ideea is to ask Turkey to accept the help of the international community in order to further secure the border between Turkey and Syria by blocking the cross-border flow of terrorists and stopping the illicit trade of resources such as but not limited to oil, weapons, money. They will urges Member States’ financial regulatory bodies to surveil and regulate financial transactions in order to prevent the funding of Da’esh and other entities linked with Al Qaida under the supervision of a new Terrorist Finance and Intelligence Tracking Body. Will recommend to all Member States to prevent terrorism by raising public awareness regarding the threats posed by terrorist actions as well as supporting tolerance, inter-religious and cross-cultural dialogue by drawing the attention to the role of the media, education and the business community in fighting against the ideology of terrorism and further proclaims that fighting against extremism might prevent the rise of terrorism.
They will condemns all military intervention which has and will be operated on the Syrian territory without the approval of the Syrian Government and International Community and Urges UN Member States to continue international cooperation and coordination with the aim of combating and preventing terrorism in accordance with International Law including the Charter of the United Nations.
They want to Demands economicalsanctions enforced by a new sanctions committee, The Committee for Sanctions on Violation of National Sovereignty, on all actors undertaking the aforementioned interventions and to Demands the immediate implementation of resolution 2254 (2015) to facilitate a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political transition, in compliance with the Geneva Communiqué in order to end the conflict in Syria witch means the Assad regime should be included in the elections, as well as all legitimate factions active in Syria and all legitimate political parties should participate in the elections.
In the end, they will recommend all UN Member States to take into account implement internal surveillance programs. That means the surveillance should be directed to data and metadata such as and not limited to physical correspondence, electronic correspondence and encourages all member states to remain actively seized to the matter.
After long debates and long session of voting the resolutions has been failed, but our ambassadors know that they did everything they could and next year they will fight more and better.
