Solutions after solutions
The idea of multiculturalism in contemporary political discourse and in political philosophy is about how to understand and respond to the challenges associated with cultural and religious diversity. It is also a matter of economic interests and political power: it includes demands for remedying economic and political disadvantages that people suffer as a result of their marginalized group identities. Multiculturalism involves not only claims of identity and culture as some critics of multiculturalism suggest.
Therefore, the Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM) established Measures to protect world heritage sites in conflict zone as the general topic.
So, the second committee session was basically focused on solutions. The delegate of South Korea proposed a moderated caucus about educational solutions, which was ultimately voted by the majority of the delegates. During this moderated caucus, almost everyone had an idea to come up with, but they also came up with interesting statements, such as When we educate the youth, we educate the future – Jordan.
On the other hand, after the first moderated caucus was finished, the delegate of Iran proposed a moderated caucus on the topic of short term solutions, declaring that although long term or educational solutions are important, it is even more important to focus on the present, because the world heritage sites in conflict zone need to be saved right now.
During this moderated caucus, the delegation of France came up with the idea of sending teams of experts and volunteers in those affected areas in order to help saving the sites.
Next, the delegates had an unmoderated caucus of 15 minutes, considered by the delegate of France very productive, because they found a lot of solutions, which were posted on their group of Facebook in order to be easier for everybody to see all of them.
After many other interesting discussions, the session got closed . Everyone leaved the room with a smile on their face, looking forward for the tonight’s social event.
