Today’s conference at UNEP committee had a blooming start, bringing from the very first minutes numerous fruitful ideas. After Austria and USA proposed the topics of the agenda, voters decided that the subject brought to discussion by Austria should be debated, since it treated the interesting theme regarding “the benefits and risks of low carbon economy”.
The speakers list began with the delegate of Belgium, who stated that the country is aware of the ecological problems and that, in the past few years, several environmental policies concerning the pollution have been adopted. One important point of view was underlined by the delegate of China, who emphasized the problem that its country is facing, namely massive pollution. As a result, the plan is to cut emissions by half by 2020.
Both the delegates of the United Kingdom and Turkey agreed that they are environmental aware, and that they are working on creating green sources of energy. All of the delegates of UNEP understood the importance of such a measure. Therefore, a motion for a moderated 10 minutes caucus has passed, on the matter of the benefits of low carbon economy.
All of the delegates got involved, worked and discussed over the idea of cutting the dependences on traditional resources that are pollutants, and step by step, although it seemed hard, they came to a consensus after all. All in all, UNEP meeting was very promising, and will definitely bring the best in each delegate.
