The second day at DISEC was full of negotiations and friction between the delegates and a little bit of fun at the punishments. On the topic of “Nuclear disarmament” each participant of the debate had a strong opinion and idea about the solution. The honorable delegates worked to reach consensus between the splinted part and at the begging, they started with two working papers. The principles are very strong and different, but they also had a common goal.
During the first part of the negotiation the honorable delegate of France proposed a moderated caucus about “banning the materials that can be used for nuclear weapons”, motion which has passed. They recognized that “dealing with nuclear material is very dangerous” but they also admitted that “it’s like banning guns when you can make guns from materials”. The honorable delegates also discussed about the subtopic “Resolution 51” concerning India- Pakistani conflict. At some point, the honorable delegate of China was disappointed of the Russian delegation and the USA delegation. The negotiations went further on the debate room and, during the punishment, the USA delegate slapped the delegation of Cuba.
At the end of the day, they made the draft resolution which will be voted article by article and sent towards the secretary. We all hope that a strong consensus will be found, because I can definitely tell that the struggle was real and the efforts of the delegates were higher and higher in every meeting.
