The atmosphere at UNEP Committee in the afternoon of the third day of debating is one to remember. As the Secretary-General approved the resolution draft, a round of applause filled the room. The effort and the work of the last few days concretized at last. The delegate of Saudi Arabia expressed that each state should come upon and vote this draft as it represents a common solution to a common problem. The delegation of Japan expressed that this resolution is based on respect to the countries, environment and people, and furthermore, it is important because it brings a plan for a better economy and environment.
However, the floor was open to amendments, which raised another round of discussion between the delegates. The third day of debate seemed to have been a prosperous one. The delegates voted on the amendments, and approved the resolution draft. All the effort of the last few days has just been rewarded through this paper, which brought a solution to every delegate’s concern about the environment.
A glance upon the resolution draft reveals measures such as ensuring that private companies will improve the quality and efficiency of products to cut pollution, encouraging member states of UNEP to adopt an Eco-friendly economy, and also, emphasizing the vital importance of energy storage in order to utilize unused energy and limit energy loss. Furthermore, the resolution draft specifies details about nuclear power, and ways of increasing sustainable eco-friendly energy.
