Now that the first resolution is adopted, the UNEP committee opened the discussions on the second topic, dealing with the protection of environment in the areas of armed conflict. The limitation on means and methods of warfare became the subject of a moderated caucus, which got everyone’s interest. Although it has been a hard day for the UNEP committee, with prolific discussions, the delegates seemed to be still energetic and willing to come to a consensus over this topic as well.
The impact of international law in areas of armed conflict was the next subject to be discussed through a moderated caucus, initiated by the Delegation of China. The position of the delegates relating to this topic was to point out similar outcomes: international law is a strong force in protecting the conflict areas, but it is still weak at this point, and, furthermore, there is an interference between it and the national sovereignty.
Over all, discussions at the UNEP committee are getting more and more interesting!
