At BISMUN a new day does not have just a calendaristic meaning. A new day at BISMUN means new ideas, new oustanding debates and, of course, new friendships (longlasting, we hope).
Therefore, SOCHUM Committee, which considers a variety of issues ranging from social and humanitarian affairs to human rights issues, has continued the discussion about Measures to protect world heritage sites in conflict zones, bringing up even more interesting arguments, as a result of yesterday’s fruitful sessions.
As a result of the several unmoderated caucuses the delegates took part of, a working paper has been released at SOCHUM on day 3. The delegate of France was the one who proposed the motion to introduce the working paper, his proposal being voted in unanimity, accordingly to everybody’s enthusiasm.
The document contains, among other possible solutions, the next ones: cooperation with UNESCO in order to more efficiently direct UN funds towards endangered cultural heritage sites; calling upon the Security Council to take action against the use of explosive ordinance and other destructive weaponry in the proximity of World Heritage Sites and create a Cultural Heritage Sites and create a Cultural Heritage Protection Task Force (CHPTF) funded by contributions from UN member states, which combines security personnel with experts in order to preserve and defend cultural sites in accordance with both International and National Legislation. Moreover, they strongly suggested the promotion of education awareness-raising activities such as, but not limited to: campaigns funded by UNESCO to promote cultural pluralism and respect for all nations and cultures and national programmes by the Ministries of Culture of every country in order to build respect and prevent the disrespect of national and international heritage.
After a few amendments coming from other delegates, the delegate of Iraq congratulated those who worked at the working paper, the possible draft resolution. In addition, the delegate of Germany gave a positive feedback, by saying that it is proud of what it was realized today.
All in all, another chapter from the book named BISMUN 2017 got finished, but, in a few hours, our story will continue with a Diplomatic Reception.
Stay tuned! We’ll keep in touch!
