The day started with the screening of a new footage, which plunged the delegates into more confusion rather than elucidating the case.
According to the previous video, allegedly Daesh claimed responsibility for the assassination of H.E, the Syrian Ambassador to the UN. However, today’s footage, ascribed to an anonymous terrorist organization, uttering their hatred towards the ones condemning their terrorist activity, led to the delegates questioning whether or not Daesh is still to be nominated as the actor behind the horrendous shooting which occurred in Damascus.
In response to the situation, the representative of the United States has firmly punctuated the necessity to create a new committee to investigate who is really behind the attack, in order to diminish any doubts or misjudged allegations.
The discussion has further elevated in tension with discursive clashes between the delegations of Ukraine and the Russian Federation. Ukraine has called the Russian Federation a tyrant, due to having financially backed up Assad’s regime. Apologies from Ukraine to the Russian Federation have been duly expressed, as a consequence to Russia’s right of reply.
A moment of prime importance was the Q&A session, within which the newly appointed Syrian ambassador to the United Nations has been invited to present her government’s official position in regards to the assassination. While angry about receiving redundant questions, Her Excellency has voiced several statements, which fuelled the intensity of the discussion: “moderated groups are terrorist organizations!!”, “USA is telling us what to do instead of helping us”, “we do not want any army coming on our territory, but we accept financial aid, only if done our way”. The peak was reached when replying to the Secretary General’s question whether or not Her Excellency’s government is satisfied with the support given by the Crisis Committee. The answer was very staunch, claiming that “no, we are not satisfied. There is too much bias! Thus we urge the delegates of the Crisis cell to be objective!”.
While the delegates were still caught in a quagmire in regards to their pursuit to identify the genuine actor behind the terrorist attack, a new video has been revealed, presuming a message from Anonymous. The day ended with an ample discussion on the poignant message from Anonymous, within which the hacktivist entity claimed to have discovered that the Syrian Army possesses chemical weapons. While stressing the high risk for these weapons to get in the hands of ISIS, the hacktivist entity has also harshly condemned the Assad regime.
A very sedulous work has been carried by the committee all throughout the day, mixed with diverting moments, such as karaoke sessions, dancing and odes to the chairpersons, which were punishments stemming from not refraining from using “I”.
